The Canadian government has placed on the books some international legislation relating to Canada, and also to the United States and the European Union.
ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement) aims at giving customs officers and other law enforcement officials the right to be able to check the contents of the computers and other walkmans in order to control the legitimacy of the data which are stored there.
The contraveners could then be retained until the payment of a fine and also the device could be confiscated or destroyed.
These same law officers will have to decide on the legality of the files present, this will certainly not be always simple now that many sites propose the sale of files without DRM.
Another part of this document speaks of forcing internet operators to deliver personal information concerning wet surfers who may have violated copyrights.
