The new "event" function in iPhoto allows you to better classify your photo (based on the date the photos were shot). New tools for editing photos have been added too, such as the one to correct wide-angle lens effect. Other tools can help to center subjects when cropping a photo. Other improvements are either related to .Mac and the Web Gallery function, or for themes, calendar or book creations.
iMovie is probably the iApp that seems to have underwent the most important refreshment. Its new interface with the built-in library will help you to organize your video. Of course Apple has integrated an easy sharing function for iPod, iPhone and Apple TV; part of the digital life unity philosophy. iMovie features an extended format support, for standard and high definition video, as well as the most popular formats, including DV, HDV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and even AVCHD. New tools for creating your movie and adding filters and transitions have also been added, such as skimming.
GarageBand does not look to have been massively modified, at least regarding the interface. GarageBand users will probably enjoy the new functions such as the ability to mark a region to repeat or to automate tempo effects and instruments. A new Vocal JamPack was also released, while a new EQ will allow you to graphically adjust frequencies for each track.
iWeb was refreshed to add support for Web Widgets that let you add live contents from other sites, like video, stock tickers, and headline news. iWeb now supports personal domain names, does it mean that we will get access to all iWeb features without having to own a .Mac account? This will have to be checked and further investigated. The integrated support of interactive Google Maps and Google AdSense ads on your web pages illustrate the strong interaction between Apple and Google in this field.
iDVD was refreshed to offer new themes, improved performance and deliver faster encoding.
Following its policy, as for Leopard, the new version of Apple Digital Life Suite is available at an unique price: 79€. Of course, Macs shipping today will include the new version of iLife.
