According to
Digitimes, Apple could obtain new LED V-cut light-guide technology panel from Taiwan-based Kenmos Technology . The new LED backlight unit (BLU) panel will be dedicated to for 13.3" and 15.4" notebooks. If Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) will adopt Kenmos' LED BLUs for the panels it will ship to Apple, it remains unclear if it will also include a 17" model or if it could be such a large shipment due to the future use of such technology in MacBook. For the entry level apple-branded notebook it would imply that Cupertino could decrease price significantly to make this power saving and environment-friendly technology also commercially sustainable.
Long time Mac users will probably know Daystar, a company which released the first dual processor Mac clone 11-years ago, and then offered processor upgrade cards for PPC-based Macs.
The company still offers parts and materials for upgrading Macs, and recently we spotted such mistake in their catalog:
http://daystar-store.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=748
They offer Core 2 Duo E6x00 processor for upgrading Intel-based iMac and Mac mini! those processors, aka Conroe are the desktop version of Intel core 2 Duo CPU series. Apple is only using the notebook version, known as Merom, and coded Txxxx. So if you want to upgrade the CPU of your Intel-based Mac mini or iMac, pay attention and first read our article explaining how to perform such upgrade, and what to expect from it.
On Monday, we were reporting about difficult on-going negotiations between Apple and Vivendi Universal about renewing the contract to offer Universal catalog on iTunes Store. The rumor claimed that Vivendi did not want to renew the contract without revising the pricing policy of its catalog on iTS.
Yesterday, Apple officially denied this information and Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr made it clear: "We are still negotiating with Universal...Their music is still on iTunes and their not re-signing is just not true."
Current information indicate that Universal does not plan to sign a long-term contract, and will rather continue its partnership with iTunes Store following an "at will strategy", giving Universal the right to negotiate exclusive deals with other music services, such as exclusive availability of a new song to an online music service for a define period as Apple did it recently with some renowned artists from other labels).
The surprising part in this story is not the though on-going negotiation, but rather that Apple officially reacted to deny those rumors, something rather unusual for Cupertino. It could prove that both sides are conscious they need each other, and one should not forget that record labels need Apple as much as Apple needs the record labels.
