YouTube to Cannibalize Internet Bandwidth

By linathael - 22/06/2007 11:39:21 CEST - Category: Internet
According to a study released by www.ellacoya.com, video sharing websites such as YouTube and Joost might jeopardize the entire internet hardware infrastructure. With P2P monopolizing 37% of total web traffic, YouTube represents already 10% of web traffic.
This illustrates a change in the way people use the Internet, from the browsing through documents and data to video streaming or web-based applications. The latest will probably take off in 2008 as Adobe will bring web-based photo editing solutions which will join Google applications. It might also mark the end of internet as the fantastic library and a mine of knowledge to become a standard support for delivering video and contents to customers, turning them from actors of the internet to pure consumers; the LCD display will replace the TV but contents might remain the same.
