PowerMac G4 Dual 2 GHz: Up and Running... Hot

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 22/06/2007 11:28:18 CEST - Category: G5
For some Mac users the G4 era is already part of history as Apple already went through 2 CPU cycle, with the G5 and the Intel CPU transition. For many users, a G4-based computer is more than enough for their needs, and they keep upgrading it when required.
Georges-Henri is on of those G4 owners, and he has installed in his PM G4 the NuPower Dual 1.8GHz upgrading card. As 2.0GHz is better than 1.8GHz, he decided to overclock it as illustrate below:

He describes on his website how to perform such operation:

This record has a cost: heat release. To stabilize the overclocked card, several fans were added to keep the temperature as low as possible, turning the rather silent computer into a rather noisy one. The next step is probably the use of a water cooling system.
