ATI/AMD: R600 Launch Postponed

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 21/02/2007 14:25:48 CET - Category: Video
While it was originally planned to be launched in March, with photos of the prototype already being available on the web, the new ATI/AMD GPU R600 will not be available before H2 2007.
This is a major delay, and one can imagine that they had to face a last minute problem which could not be fixed quickly.
This might be a problem for Apple too, as a R600-based graphic card could have found its way in the Mac Pro revision B.

iPhone: Additional Information

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 21/02/2007 09:43:09 CET - Category: Apple
Hereafter is some information about the iPhone:
- If Cisco does not request a new extension of the negotiating period with Apple, it ends today, so we should know more about their agreements in a couple of hours.
- Prices of both iPhone models released by Steve Jobs during the Keynote, 499$ for the 4GB model and 599$ for the 8GB model, could be the price for the subscription-free device. When signing up for 2 years with Cingular, iPhone models would then be available for 299$ and 399$ respectively. This information remains a rumor, and one could also question it as such price would cannibalize iPod sales. But maybe it is the goal...
- Quantum Research claims Apple is using some of its patented technologies in the iPhone. This company already sued Apple in the past over patent infringement for the iPod click-wheel. Taking that they never touched an iPhone, one can seriously question their claims, it is probably a way to have its name associated with the iPhone for the internet search engines.

"It is All Pirates' Fault!"

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 21/02/2007 09:39:54 CET - Category: PC - Source: Dailytech
With time, pirates and P2P users are pointed as the main reason of a failure when a problem arises or a project does not develop as expected. The RIAA and Music Majors claim pirates are the bad guys while one could also consider that they should revise their business plan regarding digital music.
Recently, Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, decided to use the same strategy in front of analysts and share holders to explain the lower than expected sales of Windows Vista. Again, they did not think further, and did not want to investigate about potential reasons behind those poor sale rates of all Vista versions. As a consequence, Microsoft requested all OEMs to have Vista bundled with new hardware from March; on their side they will increase security system to limit the impact of pirated versions. Knowing that most IT reviewers have described Vista has an immature OS, even advising to stay with Windows XP still Vista SP1 is released, and one could also understand why consumers do not run to shops to update their Win OS.
When you have a problem, do think about it; just start blaming the pirates...

Towards a Merger between Warner and EMI?

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 21/02/2007 09:36:18 CET - Category: iPod - Source: Macworld
According to rumors, the Warner music major would be negotiating with EMI, for either a acquiring it, or merging their music business. This is not the first time that such rumors are released about those 2 music majors (either merger or take-over).
For consumers, this potential merger between both majors might change the future, as EMI was reported to be ready to released part of its catalog as DRM-free tracks, while Warner was strongly against such idea.
