- Desktop Printers in Leopard - Lionel - 22:56:19

Leopard no longer offers a menu allowing the creation of desktop printers. Pascal has informed us about this method to easily create one:

There is a hidden solution
Open the System Preferences / Print and Fax.
It is simple enough as dragging and dropping a printer icon onto the desktop and it is created.
Then just drag and drop documents on the icon to launch a print task.
It's simple and it works.

- A Bug in Quad Core Penryn? - Lionel - 15:19:44

According to different sources, Intel announced to its clients that a bug is affecting Penryn Quad Core CPUs. Currently, it remains unclear if Xeon Penryn will also be affected or only the Quad Core Extreme desktop-dedicated CPU.
The bug is reported to create a problem with the FSB under certain circumstances, and with specific chipset. The problem can not be solved unless than changing the processor design, and producing new batches.
If Xeon Penryn is also affected, it could even further delay the launch of the future revision of Mac Pro (at least by one month).

- 130W for the First Nehalem CPUs - Lionel - 15:14:32

Intel Penryn CPUs are not available yet, that information about the future CPU generation is already spreading on the web. The Nehalem will be engraved at 45nm and should be available during H2 2008. It will be true native Quad Core CPUs and not dual Dual Core CPU as today for Xeon Penryn. It will also be the first Intel CPU to integrate the memory controller into the chips to boost performance and even further increase the cache size.
the good news is that beside the increased number of transistor, the TDP should be around 130W for the non-Extreme version of Nehalem.
To further decrease the TDP, one will have to wait for 2009, when Intel will transfer engraving technology to 32nm, but at that time clock speed might have increased, and Intel will most likely offer dual Quad Core CPUs...

- Download Files on your iPhone - Lionel - 15:08:41

The current version of Safar installed on iPhone and iPod touch does not allow owners to download files.
But this is now possible thanks to a plug-in to be added to Safari which allow the file to be loaded into memory. You then need to connect via SSH to recover them on a computer. This plug-in can bow be downloaded from the following webpage: http://www.badongo.com/file/5387192
Erica Sadun from Tuaw already tested it successfully. It will most likely be very useful for SIM unlocked iPhone owners, and potentially a problem for iPhone carriers without an unlimited data access included in the subscription plan.
