- LiteOn releases a Blu-ray drive - Lionel - 23:04:41

LiteOn has announced its first Blu-ray drive.

The DH-401S is able to read CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs. Although, and for the first time in a long time, this product does not write to any media.
Its price is rather tight, being announced at 180€, knowing that it should be found cheaper in stores.
So it will have a chance to find its place in towers, complementing a DVD burner - which nowadays costs just a few dozen euros.
One can imagine that Apple will offer them in the future as an option on Mac Pros in addition to a SuperDrive or standard with the possibility to replace it with a Blu-ray burner. It will be necessary at that time for the new Apple Displays and video cards to support HDCP.
