- MSN Messenger for Mac officially Dropped... before its rebirth - Yoc - 21:27:34

The Microsoft MacBU could never catch up with the PC version, and MSN Messenger for Mac was lacking many features of a true instant messenger client. According to LiveSide blog, usually well informed about Windows Live Messenger, the current Mac MSN Messenger application will not be updated, instead a brand new version of Messenger for Mac OS X will be released in 2008. Windows Live Messenger 9 should ship in late 2008 or early 2009, and Microsoft is trying to work out a way for Live Messenger users to chat with AIM/GTalk/ICQ-based users. Quite amazing news as it would imply that for once Microsoft tries to improve compatibility with other IM format instead of forcing them to use its system.

- O2 to sell 200,000 iPhones in 2007 - Lionel - 21:25:59

Source : FT

While the iPhone will be launched on Friday in UK, O2 already announced its expectations for the Apple-branded mobile phone: 200,000 units by the end of the year. According to some analysts it might even be a pessimistic goal, as other forecasts double this figure. It seems that all European iPhones will feature firmware 1.1.2 which brings full support for French and German as well as other fixes, such as the tiff file buffer overflow used by hackers to SIM unlock iPhones...

- Leopard: Painful HD Permission Repairing Procedure - Lionel - 21:25:02

If you tried to repair permissions on your computer after having installed Leopard, you might have already noticed how it is now resource consuming.
Several process are being launched when repairing permissions:
- mds requiring 20% of a 3.0GHZ Xeon
- installdb requiring 97% of a single Xeon core
- then repair_packages requiring 97% of CPU resources!
If on a Quad Core Xeon, such resource-consuming process will be carried out quickly, it might take much more time on a less powerful Mac Intel, and even more on older PPC-based models which might simply be not usable for about one hour!

In addition, if you installed the last update for Apple Remote Desktop Client, you will have an error message indicating that the the SUID file: "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
If Apple should quickly correct this problem, the procedure is currently far from being as fast as in previous OS X version, and users should be aware of it before launching it.

- Apple DVD Player Does NOT Support Blu-ray Disc Yet - Lionel - 21:23:18

After installing Leopard, we wanted to test if we could play a BD media. So, we simply inserted a BD disc in a compatible drive installed in a Mac Pro.
While one could have expected that Apple DVD Player refuses to launch, it instead crashed independently of the way the disc was inserted prior or after launching the application. Hereafter is the log file:
