- Live from the NAB: Part II - Lionel - 20:57:35

Hereafter are some photos taken from the NAB, and first from Apple's booth.
As you can see, Apple has installed a huge banner outside of the conference center.

The NAB is indeed a huge event, and Apple's booth the the largest booth in "South Hall" dedicated to video post-production.

The booth is really big, and no one can miss it. Dozen of visitors are permanently asking questions to "Apple's Experts"

One can have a personal demo of all Apple-branded audio and video solutions, and there is no problem to take photos of the booth

the other booth capturing a huge amount of visitors in "South Hall" is the one from Red One where the "revolutionary" digital HD video camcorder is presented.

A closer view of the camera.

More photos soon.

- Having a Radeon X1900 XT in a Mac Pro: Time for Spring Cleanup Session - Lionel - 09:51:08

Following our recent news about the overheating of the Radeon X1900 XT being installed in Mac Pro, it seems that the design of the GPU fan-based cooling system might trap dust and then leads to its precipitated death as reported by Christophe:

...I decided to open up my Mac Pro for performing a quick clean up procedure especially before the hot season.

When getting to the GPU I was amazed by the amount of dust trapped in the air inlet opening of the GPU cooling system. The small metal-based grid was covered by dust, in a much, much more extend than the rest of dust found in the Mac Pro.

After a good clean up, I partially disassembled the cooling system and performed some tests. After 1 hour of playing with Age of Empires III, I hardly heard the Radeon X1900XT, while previously I could hear the fan at full speed all the time.

So, I recommend to all X1900 XT-based Mac Pro owners to open up their computer and clean up the air inlet of the GPU cooling system, as its design might enhance dust trapping and dramatically shorten is lifetime.
If this report gives more "inside" information concerning the reason behind Radeon 1900 XT overheating issues, all Mac users should know that with the summer getting closer, it is time to get ride of the dust in your computer, either with a vacuum cleaner or a air spray.

- Google to Acquire DoubleClick - Lionel - 09:49:12

Google announced to have acquired the ad-management technology company DoubleClick Inc. The deal set for $3.1 billion in cash is expected to close by the end of the year. One should also remember that DoubleClick was the target of a bidding from 2 giants, Microsoft and Google; proving the interest of both companies in the exploding online and internet-based advertising solutions. Once more, Google was able to make the highest offer, DoubleClick becomes its most expensive acquisition ahead of YouTube in 2006 purchased for $1.76 billion.
This information will provide fuel for those fearing the exponential growth and impact of Google business model on the internet advertising market. Indeed, if Google's monopoly in this field is confirmed everyday, in a near future we might see this new giant killing competition and fixing the rules in this business. Advertisers and publishers might be screwed to Google's ads without much opportunities or possibilities to avoid them to promote their products on the web.
