Pioneer unveiled specifications of new products that should be available for Q1 2007:
- In February, the DVR-112, supporting 18x DVD burning speed will be available. This is probably to follow the same strategy than most burner manufacturers: while waiting for the winner of the blue laser-based DVD war, push current DVD format to its physical limits. The first model will be available as PATA format, then one month later a SATA format will be released. Both versions will also be available as LightScribe-compatible, while Pioneer was originally supporting the competitor format, Labelflash.
- Probably in February too, the second BD burner generation will be released: the BDR-202. Based on a SATA format, it will burn BD-R at 4x while supporting burning capabilities for DVD and CD media.
Pioneer seems to follow competitors than really bringing innovative products as it used to be in the past.
