iMac 24" and BootCamp Compatibility Issue: Hints? [updated]

By linathael. Original by Kalomir - 03/11/2006 17:38:44 CET - Category: Mac Intel
As stated on Apple website, there is no support concerning compatibility issue faced by some iMac 24" owners when trying to install Boot Camp. In addition, the recent update to Boot Camp version 1.1.2 did not solve the problem. One should also notice that some users have even lost the ability to boot their iMac24" from the OSX DVD following failure of Boot Camp installation.
We originally thought that the graphic card was the problem, but it seems to affect equally GeForce 7300 GT- and GeForce 7600 GT-based iMac 24". Clocking of the CPU does not seem to be involved neither.
Dedicated topics have been opened on different websites (Macrumors, Apple Forum), and we have decided to relay it on our forum: here.
We are analyzing serial numbers of Boot Camp-unfriendly iMac 24", but also the SMC of those computers. Indeed, on our French forum, it seems that iMac 24" can be shipped with 2 different version of SMC, and the effect seems to be linked to Boot Camp compatibility:
- 1.10f1 => blank display, impossible to install Windows
- 1.10f2 => Windows works
We need to confirm this information with a larger number of iMac 24" owners, so please post this information on our forum.
update:
Unfortunately, the SMC does not seem to be involved, but there are 2 other things to be tried:
- perform Boot Camp installation with no peripheral plugged to the iMac (beside keyboard)
- could you also indicate in our dedicated topic the optical drive model as well as its firmware version
