Lite-On, one of the worldwide most important peripheral manufacturer, might stop producing devices branded with its name due to the huge competition in those markets, leading to smaller margins.
But Lite-On will not stop working, it will simply become a contractor and will for example be in charged of manufacturing burners for Optiarc, the joint-venture created by Nec and Sony.

Apple has released a MacBook SMC firmware update 1.1 suppose to address issues with unexpected shutdowns. This update is even recommended for all MacBook systems, including those that received warranty repair.
To be noticed, you will need Mac OS X 10.4.8 to install it.
As usual with firmware update do not interrupt the process.
