For a couple of years now, Palm has been divided into 2 independent companies — PalmSource, developing Palm OS, and Palm, developing and manufacturing "Palm"-branded PDA. PalmSource has licensed its OS to Palm (on a yearly basis).
With the recent release of the first Windows CE-based Palm-branded PDA, Palm had decided to look for other OS alternatives. It appears that Palm might not renew its license for Palm OS next year. The official reason being that PalmSource has failed to deliver new features/OS developments.
As a consequence, Palm can still develop Palm OS-based PDAs with the current PalmOS versions, but will not get access to newer releases after December 2nd 2006. It also means that, in the near future, all PDAs may be running on Windows CE giving birth to a new monopoly.
If rumours are true that Apple has developed a Mac OSX "LE", it could be time to release it to other PDA developers in order to offer non Windows CE-based prducts. Maybe the rumoured future Apple iPhone will be a blend of iPod/PDA/Phone in an all-in-one device from Cupertino :)

Tgdaily has compared performance levels of a Core Duo 2.16 GHz (Yonah) vs. Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz (Merom).
If the Merom is slightly better than the Yonah for some benchmarks, it is less power consuming than the Core Duo. TgDaily has determined a gain of 7% which once translated into minutes will give a MB Pro an extra 15 minutes battery lifespan.
This test shows than the Yonah might quickly become for the Merom what the Celeron was for the Pentium-m.
