Mighty Mouse gets mightier, loses tail and goes public!

By Moose. Original by Lionel - 25/07/2006 17:49:52 CEST - Category: Apple
So, maybe under pressure following the recent leaked photos of the prototype, Apple has officially released the Wireless Mighty Mouse [now that some cheesy kiddo super-hero name].
Like most other top-of-the-range mice, it is equipped with a laser tracking device, which offer better precision than the cheaper red LED system.

It is now available from the Apple Store for $69:
It will work under Windows using BootCamp, but it is not certified for use with any other OS than OSX.
It now replaces the old (un-mighty) Bluetooth mouse, which goes out of the catalog.
The wired Mighty Mouse gets a price drop at $49.
And so an era passes and, like the dinosaurs did before them, the one-button Apple mice are soon going to join T-rexes, dodos and boys bands on the list of extinct species.

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 25/07/2006 16:09:43 CEST - Category: Apple
Apple has published a Technote regarding the white MacBooks' palmrest area issue encountered by some MB owners:
If your MacBook is exhibiting discoloration on the top case after some use, please contact AppleCare for service.
We have obtained some additional and exclusive information:
Apple has identified the problem. The plastic composition used in the past has been modified, and new cases are being produced. However, not all CMAA have received the new case, so do not rush to get your MB case exchanged, you might get the same problem again, or your notebook might be stacked for days or weeks before the modified case arrived.
In a couple of weeks, the case exchange will be performed in a couple of hours.

Intel - ATI: Give Me Back Your Licence!

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 25/07/2006 10:14:15 CEST - Category: PC - Source: The Inquirer
As one would have expected it, now that ATI belongs to AMD, Intel will not renew the license issued to ATI for the right to develop and manufacture Intel-compatible chipsets.
For ATI, it is worth US$100 million and it allows AMD to isolate Intel for the integrated chipset market.
Of course Intel develops its own graphical chipsets, but their performance levels can not compete with dedicated solutions provided by ATI or nVidia.
The previous scheme where Intel and ATI were partners to compete with the long partnership between AMD and nVidia might evolve in the coming months. Either Intel and nVidia will team up, or Intel will push R&D to develop more competitive integrated chipsets and/or GPUs. The latter has been rumoured to be already in action; the forthcoming GMAX3000 being the first result of such efforts.

Mighty Mouse gets mightier, loses tail!

Apple submitted to FCC a prototype of a BlueTooth Mighty Mouse for certification.

As can be seen in these pictures, the mouse sports basically the same look as its little wired sister, without the "tail". It is still powered by two AA batteries.
