Core 2: Intel Finalizes Specifications
Intel has finalized the specifications of the forthcoming desktop-dedicated Core2 CPUs; that should quickly find its place in the future iMacIntel revision, or even in a PowerMac-replacing model (or MacDesk or Mac).
All models will have a 1066MHz quad-pumped FSB (266x4), except the entry-level model clocked at 1.6GHz with a 800MHz FSB. Other models includes : 1.6, 1.86 and 2.13 GHz clock CPUS all featuring 2MB of shared L2 cache, while the higher end models, 2.4 and 2.66GHz, will sport doubled L2 cache (4MB).
The Core 2 Extreme Edition will be the flagship model, clocked at 2.93GHz, available for only US$999/CPU.
In addition, Intel has informed that the TDP of the Xeon WoodCrest is lower than original predicted, 65W instead of 80W, except for the high end model clocked a 3GHz.
We still expect Apple to use this CPUs in the "Mac Pro" to replace the current PowerMac G5, on the basis of a dual Xeon WoodCrest (4 cores).
