The majors usually associate the name BitTorrent with pirating, the connection between the two being easier to support than to counter.
A few months ago, BitTorrent, in search of respectability, commercialized. They even succeeded in raising funds (close to $9 million) from a Californian "capital venture."
Continuing this effort, an agreement was signed with Warner. This will certainly contribute to the change in BitTorrent's reputation.
This agreement allows Warner to use the P2P software in selling movies and TV shows.
The prices will range from a dollar for a TV episode to the price of a DVD for a recent film.
Of course, the videos will have strong DRM prohibiting them from being viewed on other computers and from being burned.
The hyping of the system will begin soon in order to lure the maximum number of customers, which will accelerate global sales. It still remains to be seen whether consumers are ready to pay the same to download a film as for buying a DVD.
