Boot Camp: Windows fire back?!

By linathael. Original by Yoc - 07/04/2006 11:52:21 CEST - Category: Mac Intel - Source: Xlr8yourmac
Since we have now an officially supported solution to install WinXP on a MacIntel, one can of course immediately use cross platform benchmarks to evaluate the strength of the hardware/OS. This is exactly what XLR8yourmac has just published on its website: Windows is faster than MacOSX!
The main reason is the OpenGL benchmark showing a 40% performance difference between XP and OSX. OpenGL optimization as well as ATI drivers refinement are 2 real issues to be addressed by Apple in a near future, otherwise we might see similar benchmarks that we will not really support OSX superiority as an alternative OS to WinXP.

Core Duo vs. desktop processors

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 07/04/2006 11:44:10 CEST - Category: Mac Intel
Hardware.fr has taken advantage of the availability of the first Core Duo-dedicated desktop motherboard to compare the last Intel processor vs. other desktop processors.
Without big surprise, the Core Duo performs extremely well, confirming that the power/watt marketing claim is strongly supported by technical evaluation.
So one can already imagine how efficient the future Intel desktop-dedicated processors will be...the processors that will replace the PPC970MP in the PowerMac...
