After some doubts and some times required to repeat the procedure by beta testers, it is now official: the contest organized by Onmac is now closed, meaning that someone has successfully developed a way to install and boot WinXP on a MacIntel.
If Onmac website does not provide any information regarding the procedure to perform such installation, we have learned that it will be soon available as an Open Source project. We will of course follow this story, and we will support this "bidouille" as much as we can.
[Update] Additional information and speculations:
It is possible to find on the net, reports from beta testers who have successfully applied the procedure to their own MacIntel. The iMacIntel 17" as well as he MacBook Pro have been "WinXP-certified", only the ATI drivers for the Radeon 1600 are missing. The MacIntel mini is also fully certified. Only the iMacIntel 20" is not fully validated with WinXP.
Technical details of the procedure are not known; but one could speculate that the success could be linked to the following initiative that has been launched on March, 12th 2006 and named : BAMBIOS (Legacy (BIOS-Based) Booting on the Intel-Based Macintosh), a micro EFI software emulating a BIOS.
The first version of the procedure is available for download here
