The new series of reported dead APX is now after 17-18 months!!
Hereafter are 2 reports received in a single day:
From Orlin :
As I have seen it on different web forums, I am not the only one having problems with APX. Mine died this morning when I woke up - no more green LED.After calling the AppleSupport, Orlin told us that his APX will be exchanged as it was still under warranty because it was bought at the same time than his notebook and its dedicated Notebook AppleCare extension program. In this case, the APX is covered for the same period of time without additional cost (3 years).
I bought this APX in around June 2004 from the French AppleStore and it is of course not covered by the warranty anymore :(
I will contact them to report the issue anyway.
A second report from Jérôme: is there some light at the end of the tunnel?
I have also experienced a problem with my APX after 17 months. So if you have had problem with you APX after 13 or 17-18 months, try to contact Apple Customer Service to get your APX exchange free of charge :)
First, I contacted my local Apple reseller who told me that there was no chance to get a new one for free, neither to get it repaired. He told me to call the Apple Customer service...".
So, I called them and I got the same type of answer: the product is not covered by the warranty, so not exchanged. But when I mentioned that macbidouille.com/hardmac.com were reporting an abnormally high number of APX dying after 13 months, then I was told to wait... after couple of minutes, I have been given a number (customer satisfaction code?) to be added to the defect APX that we be sent back to Apple by my local reseller.
Three days later, my local reseller called me: my new APX had arrived! and it was a free standard exchange!
Thanks you Apple, for an APX bought in September 2004!
