Pioneer to release the DVR-111 in March

by jwa . Original by Lionel - 29/01/2006 07:07:46 CET
In March, the successor to the popular DVR-110, the DVR-111, will arrive.
Never before has an update between two generations been so tiny, as the only difference in terms of performance is in regards to reading and writing DVD-RAM. The speeds of both are being upgraded from 2x to 5x.
Pioneer will also be modifying the frame to minimize noise from the writing mechanism.
It seems that we have arrived at a plateau for DVD writers, just like there have been some years with 48x and 52x CD burners.
The future belongs to burners with blue lasers.

Intel at 45 nm

by jwa . Original by Lionel - 29/01/2006 06:51:19 CET
Intel has succeeded in producing SRAM memory chips manufactured at a 45nm size.
The reason for choosing these chips is because they are simple chips which have many identical circuits and few complexities which allows for the first validation of this process. Intel will then perform tests on increasingly complicated chips in order to keep problems isolated. It is expected that they will have successfully manufactured whole processors at this size by the second half of 2007.
