Anti-copy system a "hidden defect"

by Greg . Original by Lionel - 23/01/2006 13:21:56 CET - Source: Nouvel Obs

Warner and the French distributor Fnac have been sued in a French Court by a user who could not play a Phil Collins audio CD on his Mac. The Mac User won the case. According to the verdict, the protection system is a hidden defect inasmuch as it has the CD become unreadable on some drives. It also stated that this system is illegal because it keeps the users from doing backup copies for their personal use.
Warner now has to comply and stop using this system in France. It will be fined 150 euros per day until then.
These anti-piracy measures really are doubled-edged swords for the Majors: they can turn honest and faithful customer away from them to the tempting calls of piracy.
