Historically, Apple was always very close from ATI. Only their chips used to equip the first Powermacs for instance, and Apple even received the first, very powerful ATI 128 for their G3 B&W Powermacs. Then NVidia arrived, which began to share the dotation of Apple machines. Yet for the first time, with the last Powermac G5 line, ATI was totally evicted from the higher end Apple platform.
The Canadian manufacturer hasn't said its last word though, as according to XLR8yourmac, ATI will have no less than two meeting rooms on January Macworld.
One can therefore hope for new productsto be shown, and most probably PCI-Express cards for the latest Quad G5s.
Of course ATI is losing grip in the PC world where high end NVidia cards are more performing, yet on the Mac, they often made better optimization for their drivers (which isn't difficult), thus bringing better results.
ATI could even make us the surprise to release FireGL cards competing with the Quadro FX. Provided they'd have good drivers, really optimized Open GL and certified, they would have no difficulty conquering the professional market.
