We told you about the mistakes ATi has made in positioning its products. Well, those problems have not been resolved as information has been found for the reason for the almost complete absence of the Radeon X1800 XT.
ATi has decided to stop producing this card, and instead to replace it soon with a new chip, the R580.
This product is a monster compared to the other cards. It has a 48 Pixel Pipeline compared to 16 for the X1800 and 20 for the 7800 GT.
The price is expected to reach news heights at $650.
In summary, if this product is released within a reasonable amount of time, ATi could find itself in the lead, at least for a little while.
