We recently spoke of the implementation of optical fiber networks in Paris. In some areas, Cité Fibre can provide connections with date transfer rates up to 100 Mbits/sec (amongst which 30 for Internet). At the same time,Noos, another provider, is conducting tests with rates close to 40 Mbits/sec. The Internet provider Free, which has always proposed first class accesses, had to react in order to comfort its investors about the futur of copper connection. It just did so and has announced working on F-DSL, a technology which allows a 178 Mbits/sec downloading speed (18 for uploading).
This already existing technology is indeed called ADSL-bonding. Its principle is to use multiple copper connexions in order to have a broader bandwith. Apart from the installation of extra-lines and a dedicated modem, it requires no change of infrastructure and therefore no major investment. Of course, Free is ready to release this technology on the market when competition will require such banwiths.
