Protections of 10.4.3 x86 hacked?

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 22/11/2005 18:29:46 CET - Category: Mac Intel
It did not take a long time for hackers to bypass the new protection implemented with Mac OSX 10.4.1 x86 in order to install this version on a standard PC.
The newer protection present in the last version 10.4.3 was considered more evolved since up to recently nobody had successfully cracked them.
But as we already mentioned it, any protection can be bypassed; it is only a matter on time. According to OSX86project, a hackers, named Maxxuss, could have successfully modified the kernel in order to install the last OSX x86 version on a non Apple-certified PC.
We do not have details of this exploit, but if this information is indeed confirmed, it might push Apple to reconsider launching officially OSX x86 in the coming weeks together with a x86-based computer model. Especially if the last protection present in OSX.4 x86 were considered as the final/optimal ones...

PMG5 Quad : reports, part 2

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 22/11/2005 18:21:48 CET - Category: G5
Chris has sent us the complete profile of the thermal probes located in his PMG5 Quad. It has been recorded while the CPU usage was maximal.

The processors are indeed noticeably cool with a temperature around 67°C. Really different than the 85-90°C often measure with a fully loaded PMG5 dual 2.5GHz.
This lower temperature is also present for other components of the Quad, such as the memory controller and the main logic board (around 20°C lower than previous models).
But it seems that being cooler has a price, since the new models are considered noisier than the PMG5 dual processor.

20 years of bugs: the package

By Greg. Original by Lionel - 22/11/2005 11:09:59 CET - Category: PC - Source: PC Inpact

Incredible as it may seem, Microsoft is about to launch a Collector Package in Japan to celebrate Window's 20th anniversary.
The pack will consist of a probably unmodified Windows XP (although it will feature a special "20th anniversary edition" desktop theme) and sometimes painful remembrances such as replicas (non-workable)of Windows 95 to 2000 install CDs. There will also be stickers, a video featuring Bill Gates himself and a demo version of Windows Vista.
It really seems that Microsoft is trying to catch back and create the same kind of brand and leader culting as we've always had on Mac...
If you think this is all a hoax, just have a look on Microsoft Japan official website:
