It is done, European Apple Stores were updated last night andd now offer the 7800 GT as BTO for G5 PowerMacs.
On the French Store, pricing is of €420 for the dual 2 Ghz, and €360 for the dual 2,3 and Quad G5s. It is much the same price as the 7800 GT for PC if you bought one in a shop (substracting the 6600 that Apple then won't provide you, of course).
After FastMac,
it is now Sonnet turn, both brands usually known for their CPU upgrades, to release substitution batteries for the whole iPod line, from 1G to 4G. A means to give a second life to your gizmo, especially since those batteries will last longer than the original, even new (a theoretical +78 % for the iPod 1G!).
Even pricing is fair as it will cost you, as with FastMac, $39.95 for your iPod 1G and 2G, and 29.95$ for 3G, 4G, and the iPod Mini.
Until the product is available in your country (it is not the case in France for instance), you might go to their site
AboutBatteries.com which also offers, for Europe, all type of batteries for any device, not only the iPod.
Through a dedicated page on their site, Apple tries to attract Mac players by offering them a selection of games and material. The
US site as well proposes typical configurations according to your player profile. A player on the go will be advised to buy an iBook G4, a casual gamer might try a Mac mini, and if you're more the Hardcore Gamer, Apple will suggest you buy a PowerMac G5. Yet in that case, on top of being a Hardcore Gamer, you'll also have to be a millionnaire... here's Apple proposal:
- 1 PowerMac G5 Quad 2.5 Ghz, 250 Go HD, DVD burner...
- 1 nVidia Quadro 4500 FX graphical card
- 16 Go RAM
Total price according to the Store : € 15,428.01, as I added a 20" display (a reasonable choice, could have selected the 30"...).
Of course, if you play World of Warcraft, 16 Go RAM is a minimal amount. And the additional € 1,350 de plus for a Quadro 4500 FX are quite justified
given the 6% more fps it will provide on Halo as compared to the (newly released) 7800 GT.
Come on Steve, why don't you go back to Earth and suggest more realistic configurations, closer to that of a PC, for components as well as for prices...
