Windows Vista : 7 future versions!!

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 12/09/2005 14:54:56 CEST - Category: PC - Source: http://www.generation-nt.com
Microsoft seems to be on track to release not less than 7 Windows Vista versions : 4 dedicated to customers, and 3 dedicated to Pro.
Without giving details, the basic version will not allow the simultaneous display of more than 3 windows, whereas the most expensive version will of course be not limited as such.
This information could also explain why Microsoft could propose a Vista license for 99$, a price much lower than any previous Windows version.
People disliking to have numerous windows open simultaneously would have the possibility to pay less for this option ;)

A new firmware version 1.17 is available for the Pioneer DVR 110.
As usual it brings support to new DVD media and improves reading and burning capacities.
DVRFlash is not compatible with the DVR-100 yet, so you will need a PC to be able to flash your DVR-100.

Toast 7 and DivX Pro

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 12/09/2005 14:44:25 CEST - Category: CD Drives
A report from Stéphane
Toast 7 is now including DIVX in Pro version. By DIVX Pro encoding codec are not accessible from QT. So one will have to use Toast to encode a DVD into DivX with all the parameters associated with the Pro version.

Toast knows also how to deal with many other video format :

Toast installs the Plug-in QuickTime Divx 6 decoding codec which fixes the issue with QT7.
If a DivX 6 SDK can easily be spotted in Toast 7 package, nothing is sure about its possible usage with QT. That's a pity, but it is probably a cross-licensing story with Roxio.
We did not have time to report about Toast 7.0 yet, but to our point of view it is the biggest update of this application since it has been introduced. This application can do almost everything related to video : make copy of un-protected DVD, create DivX from DVD, and provide numerous details regarding DVD media...
In addition, encoding or format conversion is fast and preserves quality.
Toast 7 is optimized for dual processors computers.
