Apple's results for Q3 2005 fiscal quarter have been much higher than expected, the highest revenue and earnings in the Company’s history!

Mac computer sales increased by 35%, with 1,182,000 Macintosh units shipped, while iPod sales grew by 616% over the year-ago quarter with 6,155,000 iPods sold in Q3.
this is an excellent news, especially after the launch of 2 "low margin" Apple's products: iPod shuffle and Mac mini.

by linathael . Original by Lionel - 15/07/2005 19:26:20 CEST - Source: XLR8yourMac
Whereas the famous "cloning" application Carbon Copy Cloner was not working properly with tiger, due to problems with right managements, the recent 10.4.2 update seems to have fixed this issue.
Version 3.0 of Carbon Copy Cloner is being developed.
With such application available, we would like to remind you to perform routinely backup of your data, to avoid losing them due to a HD failure/crash. HDs are NOT indestructible, nor lifetime reliable, so Get an external HD and backup your data to avoid losing your photos or part of your digital life.
A crashed HD is not something affecting only others, and it is far away of being an exceptional event.

Another software update: AirPort 4.2 software

by linathael . Original by Guy G4 - 15/07/2005 19:20:39 CEST
This update is related to MacOSX.3.3 and higher, in other words it concerns both Panther and Tiger.
This update is supposed to fix compatibility with Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA2) security software on AirPort Express and AirPort Extreme base stations. This update also resolves IPv6 link local configuration issues.
One can be happy to see Apple reacting quickly to fix such problems, even though one would have preferred not to see problems associated with OX.4.2 update...
[update] If this update fixes many bugs, some of our readers still report unsolved problems associated with network connections.

Transflash becomes microSD

by linathael . Original by Lionel - 15/07/2005 12:11:59 CEST
Transflash memory cards are developed by SanDisk and should find its way into the future iTMS compatible Motorola mobile phone.
The Transflash memory has been certified by the SD Card Association, then became a standard, and as a consequence its name changes. So from now on, one should call it "micro SD".

Micro SD cards are currently available with 128 or 256MB storage capacity, but should reach 512MB within a couple of weeks before changing to GB scale in 2006.
