Environment-friendly Blu-Ray media from Pioneer

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 30/06/2005 17:01:42 CEST - Category: CD Drives - Source: CDR Info
Today, most of DVD media are manufactured from oil products, so not really environment-friendly and directly impacted by the price of oil.
Pioneer is investigating alternatives and has successfully produced a Blu-Ray media from maize starch. One can produce 10 media from the equivalent of a single ear of corn.

Be careful with Command-Z in the Finder!

By Cri-cri. Original by Lionel - 30/06/2005 14:12:56 CEST - Category: Mac OS X
Command-Z is a very useful function that allows to cancel the last action - it saved many times inattentive people. But, there is at least a case where you should know that it is not really working the way you might expect.
One of our readers, Laurent, copied some data on his computer from his USB key before ejecting the key.
He inadvertently used the Command-Z which canceled his last copy. Of course, he used again the same combination (Command-Z) to redo the copy. Because the key was not connected to the machine anymore, he got this error message:

The thing wouldn't have been a disaster if he hadn't delete the files from the key on an other machine.
So, please remember that if you are copying data from a removable media and eject it, the Command-Z will erase the copied files from the machine and you will not be able to go backward.

K750 and Mac

By Cri-cri. Original by Lionel - 30/06/2005 13:47:05 CEST - Category: Software
Marc tells us how to make the K750 working with Mac:
While waiting for the iPhone, I managed to synchronise the K750, including the calendar!
I tested this method with my Powerbook 15", iSync 2 and Tiger 10.4.1 and it works:
- Do all the system updates availables
- Save the address book and phone contacts
- Download this file: http://www.feisar.plus.com/sync/k750.zip
- Quit iSync, CTRL-click on the iSync icon in the Applications folder
- Choose "Show package content"
- Go to: Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/
PlugIns/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/
- Drag and drop the 2 files from the K750 archive (MetaClasses.plist et SEK750.tiff)
- Download this file: http://www.feisar.plus.com/sync/PhonePlugins.zip
- Drag and drop the "PhonePlugins" folder in the system's Library folder (not the user's one)
- Delete all existing links to the K750i in the Bluetooth preferences
- Reboot the machine
- Go to the Bluetooth menu and select "configure a bluetooth device"
- Make the association
- Launch iSync
- Address book and iCal are now synchronised!
The guy who wrote these scripts is also the author of Sync Now. He really deserves to get something on PayPal!
Let me tell you that this hack is non-official and you may experienced some uncompatibilities or loss of data... but it should work!
T's note: be careful, you're doing that at your own risks. Don't forget to back up your system and data first!
