The ultimate battery for your iPod?

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 21/06/2005 14:17:15 CEST - Category: iPod
FastMac is proposing a new battery for iPod ranging from 1G to 3G with 4G and iPod mini and Photo to come in a near future.
they claim that "it lasts 2-3x longer than any other iPod battery" originating from apple or competitors. On the technical point of view, TruePower technology based on nanotechnology would allow to create a highly conductive materials with pore size ranging from 50 to 100 angstroms generating 100 times more power density than a conventional lithium ion battery.
There is not real number or validated information despite their claim :"Over 30 months of continuous testing, TruePower has demonstrated battery life exceeding 3000 cycles with more than 70% retention of capacity.".
At least this battery seems to be excellent on paper, let see it turns to be true in reality. drop us a message if you have any experience with this battery
For iPod 1&2G the TruePower battery costs 39.95$ and 29.95$ for iPod 3G.

Hitachi 500GB HD: finally there!!

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 21/06/2005 14:00:42 CEST - Category: Hard Drive
Already announced for months by Hitachi and some over-optimistic resellers, the HD 7K500 is finally there and available.
Our partner Macway has lend us a sample of a ATA version 7k500 for couple of hours.
so, we installed it in one of our computer, and had a look at it.

as you can see, once formatted, the real capacity of this HD is 465.8GB. We have installed the 7k500 as an internal drive (replacing the SuperDrive)

Without any surprise, this HD has saturated the ATA66 bus of the SuperDrive with data transfer over 60MB/s (read and write).
currently, only the 8MB cache ATA version of this drive is available in small quantities. We do not know when the SATAII version including 16MB of cache will be available.
we will of course run a test as soon as it becomes REALLY available.

The RefurbStore is not completely empty....yet

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 21/06/2005 13:46:35 CEST - Category: Apple
Depending on the location (France, Germany or UK), the RefurbStore had probably different stocks. Yesterday and France and in Germany, the PMG5 Dual 2 and 2.5GHz disappeared quite fast from the availability list. Today, there is no more PMG5 to sale on French Refurb neither on Germany Refurb; but UK Refurb seems still loaded with all models available.
Pay attention that the PMG5 dual 2GHz are featuring PCI slots and not PCI-X. In many cases it will not change many thing for end users, but it might be important to notice.
We were expecting new products around 11h00, but it seems that we will have to wait till tomorrow to expect refurbish iMac, PowerBook and iBook, if any...
The shortest way to your Refurb Store (simply change uk in the address to de for Germany, fr for France)
