Tiger: some new features

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 02/05/2005 22:49:18 CEST - Category: Mac OS X
While our readers are receiving their Tiger box, and start exploring this new opus of MacOSX, they are reporting to us some new features and some bugs:
- if you own a Logitech mouse MX1000, Tiger is now supporting natively the horizontal scrolling.
- Tiger calculator does not have "speech" function anymore. But you can install Panther calculator to retrieve the "voice".
- Many new features with iSync:
* It is not necessary anymore to retrieve iSync conduit. When you are using a Palm with your Tiger-based Mac, it will automatically get installed.
* With some mobile phones, iSync sends an "iSync agent" to simplify the synchronization. Hereafter is a photo of this agent in action with a SonyEricsson P900:

Thanks a lot to our readers for sending us their remarks and tips. We will keep publishing them.

Test the H.264 codec

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 02/05/2005 22:40:45 CEST - Category: Video
Thanks to the H.264 codec (Mpeg4 part 10), Apple is now proposing movie trailers in HD format on its website. You can watch the trailer of "Fantastic Four" in 1280x532! but it weights 121MB...
As usual with Apple downloading is very fast, we even reached a dataflow rate speed of 2MB/sec (peak). So if you have a large bandwidth internet connection and QT7, it is worth a try!!

Steve Jobs at WWDC

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 02/05/2005 22:35:13 CEST - Category: Apple
It is now official. Steve Jobs will give an inaugural keynote at the WWDC on June 6th.
Since the new PMG5 are now released and available, he will not have to apologize for the "not available yet" 3GHz model. But if he is coming one can assume that he will introduce at least one new product in relation to the WWDC topics: so will it be a hardware- or software-related product?? or both?? Let’s bait!

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 02/05/2005 22:31:01 CEST - Category: Mac OS X
Thanks to Michel for this info.
The website Macparts.de is proposing a new patch Tiger-compatible for the "extended desktop" mode.
The previous version for Panther was not stable with Tiger.
The new version is Screen Spanning Doctor v0.3.3.
You can download it from the following webpage:
http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/ScreenSpanningDoctor.dmg
Please do not forget to look at the list of supported computers to ensure that this patch can be applied to your computer! This patch allows the extended desktop mode which is not present by default on iMac, iBook and eMac; even though the required hardware resources are present.
