iCal's time distortion field

By Moose. Original by Lionel - 21/03/2005 06:30:28 CET - Category: Software
Macman discovered a strange problem with iCal.
I found a bug with iCal, which can be reproduced on any Mac.
Here's the skinny: it is IMPOSSIBLE to set up an event on sunday 27 March 2005 between 02am and 03am.
I sent some bug feedback to Apple and I'm mightily annoyed since I needed to do some planning for a show happening that same night.
Later, he found out that this "bug" is the way iCal handles the transition from daylight savings time to "summer time": most European countries will go directly from 2am to 3am on March 27...

Apple's new repair centre is indeed in the UK

By Moose. Original by Lionel - 21/03/2005 06:20:37 CET - Category: Apple
Head confirms:
- Apple's Europe-wide repair centre is in England, in Telford, and is called Celestica.
- Only France, Germany and the UK can directly use this centre, the other contries have to go through the local repair centres.
- if a problem is considered covered by Apple's guarantee, the machine is repaired, if not, nothing is done and it is sent back directly to the owner. If the problem is obviously NOT covered (like accidental damage), the costs are billed directly by Apple to the owner, before sending the machine to Celestica.

And it looks like that repair centre is good: many readers have been sending us extatic comments on the quality of repairs made to their laptops...
[moose: problems? repairs? I thought Apple laptops never broke down! Well, I must have been living for too long in a reality distortion field... or maybe it's just sheer hope keeping my Macs alive, here in this country where the closest Apple dealer is 5000km away]
