- Protection for the iPod nano - Lionel - 22:04:37
When you look at an iPod under the light, you can easily see numbers of scratches on its white surface. However they remain not very visible.
On the black iPod nano, things are pretty different. After having it in the pocket in less than an hour, we already noticed a lot of very visible scratches.
In order to protect it, and while waiting for "nano skins", we tried to find how to avoid damages.
Till something better comes along, we covered it with a Palm tungsten film protection. Here is the result.

The film is almost invisible if you take time to apply it suitably and without bubbles. Once in place, we cut out the surpluses with a cutter.
Although covered by film, the button and the click wheel function perfectly.
We used Palm films. They are more expensive than the other brands, but they are withdrawn without effort and without any adhesive remain.

- Disappointing R520? - Lionel - 21:41:57
Hardware Analysis published tests on the new Radeon X1800 (commercial name of the R520). If these benchs are confirmed on the final version of the card and the drivers, ATI will have problems to compete with NVidia. Indeed, these cards are much less powerful than NVidia's. ATI, already in trouble with the Stock Exchange, may play its future on this.

- Easier HD DVD-R manufacturing - Lionel - 21:32:51
Source : Clubic
Verbatim developed, with the help of Hayashibara Biochemical Laboratories and Toshiba, a new substrate specifically designed for the blue laser. It should ease the production of the HD DVD-R by only changing the product inserted between the two polycarbonate layers on the same production lines than DVDs.
Another substrate has also been developed to reduce the production costs of the BD-R. But it will remain more expensive because of the serious changes to the production tools and the need of a very hard substrate (it should be as resistant as for DVDs but it is six times thinner)

- Memory Sticks : 200$ for 2GB - Lionel - 10:22:22
Source : CDR Info
Sony is planning to decrease the price of its 2GB Memory Sticks at the end of this month. It should now cost 200$ vs. 300$ today. One can speculate that the launch of the PSP and Memory Sticks-compatible mobile phones might have been the basis for such a decision; but the release of the iPod nano might also played a role, since a 2GB iPod nano cost less than a 2GB Memory Sticks.

- New Power PC on December 2nd - Lionel - 10:17:07
It is a bit weird, but while Apple moves to x86, on December 2nd the Microsoft xBox360 featuring a customized PowerPC will be launched in Europe.
Even if the targeted market is different, game stations vs. computers, it is a bit odd to see those two companies making opposite decision for selecting their processors.
