Know everything about your machine

By kurisu. Original by Lionel - 11/09/2004 10:10:26 CEST - Category: Apple
Thank you Cyberdid for the heads up.
Every Mac has an identification number written somewhere onto the machine, that's the same number that is revealed by double clicking on the OS version in the "About this Mac" window.
With this number, you can determine :
- the machine type
- where the machine has been assembled
- the week that it has been assembled
Decrypting this number wasn't all that easy, but one website made that easy :
Enter your serial number at the following page
http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html and all the details of the birth of your Mac will be revealed to you !

kurisu adds : Actually this will work with ANY Apple product. I just tried with my iPod mini, and I now know that my mini was produced in Japan ! kinda ironic considering I bought it on ebay from the US !
