I just got my hands on my spanking new 2x2GHz G5. Very nice... Unfortunately, the current VirtualPC doesn't work on it and my wife needs to use a win32 app. Then, as I was browsing the content of old hard drives, I found that I had a fully configured old RealPC (version 1.0.9)... Out of curiosity, I double click on its icon... And then... I see Classic starting and then RealPC. After cleaning a bit the C: and D: drives, I had a fully functionnal Windows 98 desktop ! And my wife's software works fine, at a reasonnable speed. |
Of course, the performance drop for using classic before the actual x86 emulation is quite big. RealPC also limits the guest OS's RAM to 256MB.
But this will certainly help a few folks that need to run windows apps while waiting for the ever delayed new version of Microsoft VPC.
