| The requirement of a DVD drive for installing Tiger is only media-based and not software-based. Indeed, I successfully install Tiger beta version delivered with my ADC account by storing the disc image of the installation DVD on one partition of my HD via the disk utility, then rebooting after defining it as the boot partition. That way you can perform the installation without any problem. Let's hope that Apple will not forget low-end Mac owners not having any internal DVD drive, because what I just described for the installation requires having the disc image available... Note: it is impossible to boot from an external FireWire disc with Tiger Note: Tiger is running perfectly on my iMac DV 600, even faster than Panther for some tasks. Tiger is rather stable for a beta version. |
