Apple stock: it is going down...

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 03/07/2004 14:57:09 CEST - Category: Apple
Following the recent announcement by Apple that it has stopped taking order for the iMacG4, Apple's stock is going down: -5%, while the NASDAQ was only 0.5% down.
Now that Apple has decided to communicate, it will have to start learning how to do it efficiently.
Of course, the summer has never been the best time for buying a computer, especially a model which can be used by all family members such as the iMac. The desktop computer remains at home we are on holidays. It would have been a more serious problem if Apple inventory of current notebooks would have run out.
Apple just need to have computers ready and available by the end of summer...something like August 31st, will be an excellent timing...surprisingly at the same date starts AppleExpo in Paris with Steve Jobs keynote...

How to solve the problem with FCP4 on Alu 17"

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 03/07/2004 10:09:46 CEST - Category: Laptop
Thanks to Patrice for this important information regarding a problem with FCP4 on AluBook17", and the solution to solve it.

I was involved in the discussion (our Forum) related to a problem with FCP4 HD when running it on an AluBook17". Indeed, it was impossible to record more than 5 minutes of video on FireWire, as well as on the internal HD than using an external FireWire drive. This problem is known worldwide on all video Pro forums (2pop...)
After one and a half month of investigation by Apple on my computer and on my installed configuration, they have finally identified the problem and found the solution which will officially be published online on the Apple Forum later. However, they asked me to spread this information to the largest number of pro Mac users.
The solution for those affected by this problem is to repeat Panther installation with the selection in the install options of all the parts related to the Terminal. Indeed, FCP4 needs commands from the Terminal to work properly.
I am sure that this info will help many of us.

Tiger without DVD

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 03/07/2004 09:49:44 CEST - Category: Mac OS X
Hereafter the message that one of our reader sent us.
The requirement of a DVD drive for installing Tiger is only media-based and not software-based.
Indeed, I successfully install Tiger beta version delivered with my ADC account by storing the disc image of the installation DVD on one partition of my HD via the disk utility, then rebooting after defining it as the boot partition.
That way you can perform the installation without any problem.
Let's hope that Apple will not forget low-end Mac owners not having any internal DVD drive, because what I just described for the installation requires having the disc image available...
Note: it is impossible to boot from an external FireWire disc with Tiger
Note: Tiger is running perfectly on my iMac DV 600, even faster than Panther for some tasks. Tiger is rather stable for a beta version.
