2D and 3D scientific imaging on a Mac

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 06/06/2004 23:04:48 CEST - Category: Software

Improvision, a company developing high quality imaging software for Mac, is presenting us its 2 main solutions:
- Openlab, which is a modular software, specifically developed for molecular and cellular biologist interested in the structure and function of the cell. Openlab includes many different applications, from a fast 2D/3D/4D video&photo acquisition system, coupled to deconvolution and 3D imaging. Fluorescent imaging is available using a large number of different fluorescent dyes (wavelength), or via the GFP, RFP or any derivates from the green fluorescent protein. Of course other techniques, such as FISH (Fluorescent in-situ hybridization), FRET, or calcium imaging are possible.
- Volocity is an unique software allowing via an interactive interface to display, measure, recalculate and publish multicolor 3D volumes evolving with the time, such as 2D/3D captures from optical or confocal microscopy. It has been specifically developed to explore 3D evolving objects, in a simple and fast manner.
Demo versions are available from the web site:

USB 2 of the G5 to be improved.

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 06/06/2004 22:54:58 CEST - Category: G5 - Source: http://barefeats.com
Barefeats compared the perfomances of the buses Firewire 800, 400 and USB 2 of several different Apple computers.
Contrary to what we were expecting, Powermac G5 is not the fastest.
In writing tests for the Firewire 800, it is outstripped by the Alubook. Worse, the USB 2 of the Powermac is slower than the one of... an eMac, which is the cheapest machine of Apple.
Nothing catastrophic there, far from it, but those tests are quite surprising, and somehow disappointing.

Apple wants some pictures to be removed

By linathael. Original by Lionel - 06/06/2004 22:47:32 CEST - Category: Apple
Apple asked that Apple Insiders remove the pictures of what might be the new Power Mac G5. To avoid them calling us right in middle of the night (it already happened before!), we decided to remove them too.
Sorry, but we don't have any influence on Google cache...

PCInpact received pictures of Radeon X300 and X600.

If Apple still trust ATI in the future, you will find these cards in our computers...
