Surcouf sentenced: they have to deliver

By Kalomir. Original by Lionel - 28/03/2004 16:27:24 CEST - Category: Internet
Maybe you'll remember the Surcouf affair, as the reseller site had proposed the Powerbook G4 17" 1.33 GHz, for several days, at a price of 2589 Euros TTC.

Many of our readers had decided they'd use this opportunity. Surcouf had refused to deliver. Lexibook on our French forums tells us he finally won, as a ruling told Surcouf they had to deliver at the said price.
To know more, please read our French site [for once}. This has been a four months affair!

Refurbishing ever more [Upd]

By Kalomir. Original by Lionel - 28/03/2004 16:22:46 CEST - Category: Apple
The French Refurb is still open.
refurb store.
The Powermac G5 Dual 2 GHz (talking about the Store) which has been "available immediately" for months, has reached a one week delay. It seems there is a tension on this machine stocks.
[Upd.] Once again full of machines, including Portables! Is this an omen of some kind of line renewal?

FNAC pessimistic about iPod mini's arrival

By Kalomir. Original by Lionel - 28/03/2004 15:04:36 CEST - Category: Apple
One of our readers told us the FNAC shops consider the iPod mini won't be available in sufficient quantities before September, and it's the date they will communicate about.
It is quite a normal reaction, as outside the US, most of the potential buyers and resellers were so disappointed.
Every one will want to get a mini by any means. Someone wanted to buy mine 500 Euros!
Many resellers have one and only idea: import iPods mini, so it will be available quite before July, even if it won't be made official, in order not to upset Apple local resellers.
This will have many drawbacks for Apple, on top of the image question. Parallel, unofficial importation channels will be opened, which will naturally be able to go on after the Mini is available worldwide.
This is once again a grey market issue, as naturally this will increase motivation to use it.
If you desperately look for a Mini [Which is my case, so American readers, do not hesitate... K.], you'll have to be extremely careful. All kind of crooks on the Web will try to make profit out of this frenzy, whatever the way.

Exchange bookmarks between Safari and Firefox

By Kalomir. Original by Lionel - 28/03/2004 14:55:23 CEST - Category: Software
If you want to try an alternative browser, the difficultyto import your tabs might be discouraging you. Demis explains us how to do it easily from Safari to Firefox 0.8

I downloaded Firefox 0.8 this week-end and I truly was amazed by its speed.
Yet any one will be able to appreciate whatever feature is the most important to them http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
Many extensions are available in the preferences menu, which reminds me of the old movie with Clint Eastwood, “Firefox, the ultimate weapon” :)
I kept on using it ever since.
But how could I get my tabs from Safari ?
Reading forums, including those about Firefox on Mozilla servers, :
“You'll have to drag and drop them one by one.”
Firefox cannot interprete the XML files of Safari bookmarks, dropping them on its window will display its contents just like Text edit would.
Yet it is possible to do it in a real quick way.
1 You open Safari and display bookmarks page.
2 You open Firefox and display the same page.
3 Take any Safari bookmark and drop it to your desk.
4 Create a folder under the same name in Firefox
5 Open the Safari folder on your desk, select ALL the files and drop them into destination folder that has the same name under Firefox.
And that's it, the folder(s) containing the URLs under .webloc format are read and interpretated correctly.
ACHTUNG! : drag n' drop directly from Safarito Firefox won't work.
I didn't try with Camino or Mozilla but this should be as easy.

[Upd] Thx to one of our readers who reminds us of a really easy way which should do with most of the browsers :
From Safari Debug menu, chose Export Bookmarks.
This will create a HTML file that Firefox will be able to import directly.
