G5s a bit delayed

By Kalomir. Original by Yoc - 23/08/2003 21:24:49 CEST - Category: Apple
It seems France isn't privilegied as for G5 deliveries. It seems no wholesale retailer has received any machine for now ! As for the resellers who use AppleStore directly, it is said they only have received a single G5 for their showroom (1.6 GHz version) !
But it seems that delivery schedule from Cork plant is speeding up. Let's hope we'll get a better treatment next week.
If you get any info, or perhaps receive your own G5 (as a client, reseller or wholesale retailer), don't you hesitate to let us know !

Line Renaud's bottom on MSN Music club

By Kalomir. Original by Yoc - 23/08/2003 21:19:11 CEST - Category: Sound
As I was browsing thru MSN Music Club, I encountered quite a ludicrous mistake :

As you may see [even if don't know those typically French artists... Ndt], some things about the artists' infos might be improved. Typically, MSN doesn't make any difference between Renaud and Line Renaud [it's just like making a confusion between P.J. Harvey and Harvey Keitel...], the two artists' albums being simply mixed up.
Worse, the genre category isn't very well organized. How do you make a difference between :
- Others
- Not classified
and:
- French variety
- Song (including French music only)
It's easy to criticize, but when shalll l'iTunes Music Store come to Europe ?

OpenOffice, not before 2006

By Kalomir. Original by Yoc - 23/08/2003 21:05:39 CEST - Category: Software - Source: MacCentral
The programmers of the opensource OpenOffice suite just announced the Aqua version was delayed to 2006 , as their job is more complicated than they'd expected. Ti give birth to this version and synchronize it to other platforms ones, the graphic APIs outside the project haave to get modified, which hasn't been done already and doesn't depend on them.
As for now OpenOffice might be used thru X11. Though x11 should be made available with Panther, an Aqua version would enable a better integration to the system thus making OpenOffice useable to any user.
Besides the official port though, NeoOffice goes on woth its development. Even if this project first goal is to experiment on technologies that would "Aqua-ize" OpenOffice, its development is going well and a first useable version is expected for January 2004.

A software for Xserve RAID

Pedro sends news of an Apple interesting update for those who possess a Xserve RAID.
Apple has just made available a bunch of applications for XRAIDs.
It includes Xraid monitor, an activity monitoring too, with many changes and improved stability (couldn't have been worse anyway...).
Also includes an upgrade of the XRAID firmware and an updated version if the Fibre Channel utility.

G5 installation documentations

By Kalomir. Original by Yoc - 23/08/2003 20:55:12 CEST - Category: Apple
Apple has just released online (Thx to Thierry to have found out about it) all of the documentations that will enable you to install all that can be installed on a G5 by its final user. From the HD to the fans, including the modem.
The whole lot in English, and with nice pictures.
