The first PowerBooks with SuperDrive that came out of APPLE COMPUTER's factories had a revision of their SuperDrive that limited burning speed to 8x for CDs and 1x for DVDs, the D0C4 version. The firmware was later on updated, but Apple did not do an official update. I found on XLR8Yourmacan update to the firmware, D0CB, that now allows me to burn CDs at 16x and DVDs at 2x! I am sending you the said file because I do not think I am the only one to be frustrated by the situation. |

[Upd.] Baptise was a bit too otimistic. After trials, it is still not possible to go above 1x for DVD and 8x for CD :(
At least, with the new firmware, the drive is compatible with Retrospect.
[Upd.] [Upd.] Caution Note ! If you have a powerbook 17", do not apply this update ! It is in fact a lower version of the firmware already installed on these machines, and will prevent you from burning DVD-RW. Which you could do until now. More info in the Mac section of rpc1.com here.
