NAS - Part II

1. Introduction
In our first article, we were reviewing three NAS models based on single or double HDs. Today, we will test a new generation of NAS released over the last few months by several leading manufacturers, QNAP, Synology and LaCie. Keep in mind, that the hardware and the version of the integrated Linux distribution define the overall performance of the NAS.

In today's article, we will demonstrate how one can really boost performance by using improved hardware components, as well as optimized Linux OS. We run our test using both Samba (SMB) and Apple (AFP) file protocols.
