Use a PC GeForce 8800 GT in a Mac Pro Rev2

How to flash a PC GeForce 8800 GT with the ROM from the Mac Edition GeForce 8800 GT - A cheaper way to get 3D crunching power

1. Introduction
The information was originally released by Macrumors forum and then rapidly spread on the web: it is possible to flash PC version of the GeForce 8800 GT into Mac compatible unit to be used on the new Mac Pro (early 2008). Such flashed card will not work with the first generation of Mac Pro.
Even though several Mac websites were initially claiming it would never be possible to flash such high-end PC graphic cards into a Mac version due to the fact that PC ROM is set to 64KB while Mac ROM requires 128KB, in the past we have been able to flash 128KB enabled PC card into a Mac counterpart. The first batches of GeForce 8800 GT have been produced with a 128KB ROM, i.e. one of the requirements to make it flashable with a Mac ROM. However it remains difficult to define which GF8800 GT can be flashed, as it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. From our information, compatible GF8800 GT have green PCBs, while the most recent ones (not compatible) have a blue PCB. Both cards should not be used simultaneously, so our procedure is a simple transfer of software.
