Connect your Mac to cellular networks the easy way using launch2net
First run configuration
When starting for the first time, the software launches the configuration utility, and looks for an available cellular modem.

If launch2net doesn't find any cellular modem (Bluetooth, USB or PCcard/ExpressCard), it says so and quits (what use would it be without any connection, uh?). As you can see in the screenshot above, the app has detected my Z520i and found out it can use GPRS/EDGE to connect to data networks. When the modem can use other protocols (HSDPA, 3G UMTS -up to1.8Mbps-, EDGE and GPRS), you can choose which protocol/carrier to use. The app then tests the actual connection and gives you the carrier's name and signal strength. The "Parameters" tab allows you to do some custom setup for the connection:

and the "Support" tab gives you some extra details like the name of the modem port used, the cellular modem's firmware version etc.
I went for the out-of-the-box setup and clicked "Save".
One the first configuration has been saved, the application itself launches.
