Disassembling 2/2
Then, we will need to get rid of the the large front fan block.
It is fixed to the motherboard only by a single screw (as indicated by the arrow), use a magnetic head screwdriver which will be easier.
Then, to remove the front fan block, get a port cover from a PCI Express slots, and insert it on the left bottom side between the case and the block as indicated on the photo. Then, pull the block firmly, it should give way, giving you access to the heatsinks.
After unplugging both of the temperature sensor connectors between the motherboard and both of the heatsinks, you will then need the long hexagonal screewdriver.
First, start with the top heatsink, proceed as indicated, following the crossing pattern for removing the heatsinks. Later on when reinstalling the heatsink, screws will also have to be put back according to this "crossed" procedure.
Once both heatsinks are removed, use 70% Alcohol and coton dips to entirely remove the original thermal paste used by Apple. The copper part must be completely clean.
To exchange CPUs, release the metal switch, pull it to up from the frame holding the CPU on its socket. The CPU can then be easily removed.
