Power Fractal is an excellent benchmarking application because it is the only one which is able to pull the maximum from a processor, regardless of the number cores and it utilises SSE.
As you can see in comparing the Core Solo and the Core Duo, this software makes maximum use of the two cores, the efficiency of the Duo having doubled.
In this case, the gain from the Core 2 architecture against the Core is 24%. On the other hand, moving from 2 to 4 Mb of cache only showed a marginal gain of 1.5%.
Once again, you can see the divide in power between the Core Solo and the high-end Core 2, which is 4 times faster. These results are what can be expected to be obtained on well optimised multiprocessor multimedia applications.
