Dertimining the burner's origin
We started by trying to find similar aspects to the outside of the burner.
But neither Lite-On nor BenQ had an identical model. So we were resigned to dismantle it.

Things began to become more clear, the burner uses a NEC 063645AGM. However, only two manufacturers use these Nec chips. They are Pioneer for its 111 et Nec, itself, for its 4570 burners. After more searching, it was apparent that the burner is a clone of the Nec 4570.
However the NEC burner has superior specifications than those of Sony. Here is the speed of the burner:
- DVD -/+R 16x
- DVD-R/ DL 8x
- DVD+RW 8x
- DVD-RW 6x
- DVD-RAM 5x
- CD-RW 32x
- CD-R 48x
It is particularly faster in burning CDs, 48 rather than 32, and in addition it supports DVD-RAM as well as DVD-R DL. The speed of reading is also superior. But perhaps even more important, it has region-free firmwares.
