Removing the original GF7800GT cooling system
Hereafter is the GF7800GT once removed from the PMG5.
The tiny fan, rotating at high speed, is probably responsible for the high noise level generated. This fan has 2 rotation speeds, one for 2D applications, which is already barely acceptable, and the full speed turned on when using 3D graphical engine : almost impossible to stand it. If you play a 3D game with a headset, or due to the volume level of audio effects you will not notice it, but for a 3D professional user it is almost impossible to work with such a noise. To unscrew it, you only need to turn the graphic card upside down and to remove the 9 screws.
On this photo you can see the 5 black-circled screws and the 4 other ones located around the GPU.
Once removed, you simply need to unplug the power wire, then to remove the thermal paste with a clean cotton stab and a bit of alcohol, in order to make the GPU surface as clean as possible.
