Superdrive in an iBookG4

2004-03-31par Lionel

Introducing the first iBook G4 with a Superdrive.

Why :
Well, iBook G4's are not equipped with a Superdrive simply because if they were, they would put in jeopardy the existence of the Powerbook 12" in Apple product line.

But we kinda like the iBook G4, which, in our opinion is more stylish than a Powerbook G4, so we decided to put a superdrive in it. The only dvd burner that can be used for compatibility reasons is the Panasonic UJ-815 (Matshita) that is commonly found in TiBooks. You can find this drive in a few online shops (here or there...); for instance, Macway sells the UJ-815 for 357.69 Euros (tax included). It sure is expensive, but having a custom iBook G4 is well worth the price tag in our opinion. Before we go into the details, know that the iBook is the trickiest Apple machine to disassemble, and that doing so will void your warranty unconditionally.
